SoftClan e-cryptor and CAB files
How to send an encrypted email to someone who doesn't have a ZIP program

SoftClan e-cryptor allows a user to encrypt and send or save files in three different formats: EXE, ZIP, and CAB.

Most people use ZIP format to send emails.  This is because most email packages block both sending and receiving EXE files.  However, when sending a ZIP file, the recipient needs an unzip program to open the message.  Usually this is not a problem as unzip programs are very common and most users have one.  But, we often get the question - "How can I send to someone if they don't have an unzip program and I don't want them to have to install anything?".

The answer is simple, send it in CAB format instead.  CAB files are ZIP type files which are also not blocked by mail programs.  The big difference is that in Windows ME, 2000, or XP these files are automatically supported and can be opened simply by double clicking on the attachement.  If the user has Windows 95 or 98, they do need to download and install a free CAB viewer utility from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wutoys/w95pwrtoysset/default.asp

We recommending using EXE only for saving encrypted files rather than sending because they are usually blocked by email programs; however, they are perfect for saving encryped files on your on system or removable media.  Perfect for securing backups!

PestPatrol and Bugbear.B
New update offers protection again keylogger dropped by Bugbear.B virus

The new variant of the Bugbear worm virus, Bugbear.B, has been causing significant problems to systems world-wide.  Bugbear.B is an encrypted, network-aware mass mailing Win32 worm that drops a keylogger. The Keylogger determines whether the victim uses an e-mail address that belonged to any of a number of financial institutions. If so, it transmits passwords to 10 e-mail addresses.

PestPatrol can now detect and safely remove the keylogger dropped by Bugbear.B, removing a major threat to your privacy.  Be sure you have the update by right-clicking on the pest patrol icon in your system tray and selecting Update.
.
To make sure your PestPatrol is always updated, launch PestPatrol and under Options (next to File) select Updates.  You can then choose for PestPatrol to automatically look for updates either on launch or exit of the program.
